Russia hints at possible Putin-Trump talks before inauguration
Communication between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump before the inauguration is "not excluded," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Nov. 7, according to the Russian propaganda agency RIA Novosti.
"Communication between Putin and Trump before the inauguration is not excluded. The Kremlin is guided by the statements of the elected U.S. president," Peskov said.
Representatives of the Russian Federation have not, however, had contacts with Trump's staff, he stated, adding that there is currently no work being done to organize a meeting between Putin and the future American leader.
Peskov previously commented on Trump's promises to end the war between Russia and Ukraine "within a day."
"If you remember, we have repeatedly said that the USA is capable of assisting in the resolution of this conflict. Of course, this cannot be done overnight," said Putin’s spokesman.
Peskov stated on Nov. 6 that Putin does not plan to congratulate Trump on his election victory because the United States is an "unfriendly country" involved in the war against Russia.
The Russian outlet Verstka earlier reported that Putin, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, and other Russian elites "through acquaintances" congratulated Trump on his election victory.
