Trump’s envoy holds talks with Putin
A meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has begun in Moscow, the Kremlin’s press service reported on Aug. 6.
This follows an earlier report, that Witkoff’s plane had landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport. There, he was met by Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s special envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries and the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
Witkoff visited Moscow at least four times in 2025, most recently on April 25.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Russian officials see Witkoff’s visit to Russia as one last opportunity to reach a deal with Trump, though hopes for success are slim. Moscow is reportedly weighing potential concessions to Trump to avoid additional sanctions, including halting airstrikes on Ukraine.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
