Kremlin rejects Trump’s claims of Russian interference in U.S. elections

Moscow “firmly” rejects any accusations of interference in U.S. elections, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on July 17, according to the Russian state-aligned news agency Interfax.
The Kremlin spokesman claimed that Russia has “never interfered in the internal affairs” of other countries.
On July 16, President Donald Trump addressed the nation and said U.S. election systems are “extremely vulnerable” to interference by foreign adversaries, including Russia, China and Iran, the BBC reported.
In his half-hour speech, delivered ahead of the midterm elections, Trump said he had declassified hundreds of intelligence files that he said supported his claim that Beijing had tried to influence election results in favor of Joe Biden.
The BBC noted that weaknesses in the U.S. election system are well known. Some of them were addressed after the 2016 election, which Trump won, after U.S. intelligence agencies concluded that Moscow had deliberately carried out an election interference campaign through email hacking, social media activity and funding of local campaign efforts.
The next U.S. midterm elections are scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026.
