Russian forces carried out a massive drone attack on the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in the suburbs of Kyiv, Ukraine’s Energy Ministry reported on Facebook early on Sep. 8.

The attack caused partial power outages in several districts of the Ukrainian capital and Kyiv Oblast.

Emergency efforts are underway to eliminate the consequences of the attack and restore power.

“The Russians' goal is to cause even more difficulties for the peaceful population of Ukraine, leaving Ukrainian homes, hospitals, kindergartens, and schools without light and heat,” the Ministry wrote, stressing that power generation facilities, electricity transmission and distribution systems, and gas infrastructure are not military targets.

Three people, including a child, were killed and at least 20 others were injured in the Sep. 7 Russian combined drone and missile attack on Kyiv’s densely populated residential districts and the government quarters.

“For the first time since the full-scale invasion, Russians targeted the Cabinet of Ministers building, where our entire team works,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko wrote on Facebook. “Fortunately, no one was injured. The fire has been extinguished. I thank the rescuers.”

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
