‘Looking at next week’: Kremlin says Trump–Putin meeting in the works, location agreed
An aide to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Yuri Ushakov,
told Russian state-run media on Aug. 7 that the location for an upcoming
meeting between the Kremlin leader and U.S. President Donald Trump has already
been agreed upon, with talks expected in the coming days.
“The target date for the meeting is next week,” Ushakov
said, adding that preparations are now underway.
The Kremlin official said the exact venue will be announced
later.
Ushakov also claimed that the Russian side “did not comment”
on a proposal from Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to hold trilateral
talks involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
On Aug. 6, Witkoff met with Putin in Moscow. Trump later
said Witkoff had made “significant progress” during talks with the dictator.
According to the New York Times, Trump told European leaders
on Aug. 6 that he is ready to meet with Putin as soon as next week. Afterward,
he intends to hold a trilateral summit with Putin and Zelenskyy.
Trump later said there’s a strong chance he will meet
personally with the Russian dictator “very soon.” He also expressed hope that
three-way talks involving Ukraine’s president could take place in the near
future.
