No progress on Trump-Putin summit, Moscow says
No steps have been taken to organize a meeting between President-elect Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Kremlin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Dec. 23, according to the TASS propaganda agency.
"So far there have been no real impulses to organize a meeting between Putin and Trump," he said.
This follows an earlier statement by Trump on Dec. 20 that he looked forward to meeting with Putin to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.
“One of the things I want to do, and quickly, is meet with President Putin, who said he wants to meet with me as soon as possible. So we’ll wait for that. We must put an end to this war,” he said during a public speech in Phoenix, Arizona.
On Dec. 19, Putin said he had not spoken to Trump in four years but was open to contacts and a meeting, although he did not specify when such an event might take place.
The dictator also repeated claims that Russia is always ready for "negotiations" and "compromises" on Ukraine. However, he indicated that he would not agree to a freeze on the conflict.
