Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces releases exclusive footage of Kursk Operation start

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces showcased footage capturing the beginning of the Kursk operation from the perspective of their operators in an exclusive video published on the SOF’s Telegram channel on Aug. 5.

The footage shows Ukrainian soldiers navigating through trenches. The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ operation in Russia’s Kursk Oblast began on Aug. 6.

On April 26, 2025, Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov claimed that Russian forces had “liberated” the last settlement in Kursk Oblast, Gornal.

Ukraine’s General Staff refuted Russian claims of ceased hostilities in Kursk Oblast, and the DeepState monitoring project also confirmed that the operation in the region continues. According to the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on May 7, 2025, Ukraine’s Defense Forces crossed the Ukrainian-Russian border again and advanced in the settlement of Tiotkino in Kursk Oblast.

On July 8, 2025, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi confirmed that Ukrainian forces had restored positions and continue to hold territories in Russia’s Kursk and Belgorod oblasts.
