Unidentified Russian drone targets Kyiv, flying at low altitude
Russia launched a new, unidentified drone in an overnight attack on Kyiv on July 19, according to Defense Express. The Air Force Command reported the drone's designation.
Images of the wreckage surfaced online, showing a drone markedly different from the Iranian Shahed. It was flying at an ultra-low altitude of 20-30 meters, indicating it was likely a kamikaze drone.
Defense Express shared additional photos from its sources, describing the drone as having a wingspan of more than 4 meters, beam plumage, a push rotor, and a square fuselage.
This drone might resemble the Russian reconnaissance drone ZALA 421-20, but it's unlikely a reconnaissance drone would fly at such a low altitude.
"Moreover, drones of this type are not widespread and are hardly still being produced, because ZALA began promoting this drone in the early 2010s, and now it does not even appear in the company's product catalog," Defense Express noted.
The drone remains under investigation to determine its capabilities, features, manufacturer, and components.
