Ukraine expects Russia’s response to the renegotiated U.S.-backed
peace plan by the end of the month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said
in an interview with Bloomberg
on Jan. 9.
The president specified that he hopes to receive Moscow’s reaction before he and U.S. President Donald Trump finalize supplemental agreements on post-war security guarantees and reconstruction funding. The Jan. 19–23 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, will present an opportunity for a Zelenskyy–Trump meeting to discuss these arrangements.
On Jan. 8, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Kremlin aide Kirill Dmitriev in Paris, handing him the latest draft of a deal to end the Russo–Ukrainian war. Although based on the initial, heavily pro-Russian “peace plan,” the document has since been amended over several rounds of negotiations between U.S., Ukrainian, and European leaders.
During the Jan. 6 Paris summit, Ukraine, France, and the UK signed declaration of intent on the post-war development of a Franco-British force on Ukrainian soil, serving as a deterrent against further Russian aggression.
In September 2025, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin warned that Moscow would consider foreign troops in Ukraine legitimate targets for military strikes.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
