Some Kyiv buildings to remain without heating for rest of winter

Some apartment buildings in Kyiv's Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts will remain without central heating for at least two months, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Feb. 5.
The mayor explained that the affected apartment blocks are physically connected to a single heating source, the Darnytska CHP (combined heat and power) plant, which was heavily damaged in the Feb. 3 Russian ballistic missile strike. The repairs, he said, will take at least two months to complete, provided the facility is not hit again.
Klitschko said the plant once supplied heat to more than 1,100 residential buildings in the two districts. In a Telegram post, he shared a list of addresses still awaiting the restoration of heating.
“This work will take at least two months, unless Russia attacks the station again,” Klitschko said.
Meanwhile, utility companies have arranged rolling power outages on a schedule designed to minimize hardship for residents without heat. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said that electricity should be available for at least 18 hours a day in the buildings currently disconnected from the central heating grid.
