Kyiv courts issue first prison sentences to draft dodgers
Kyiv courts have sentenced seven men for evading military service during general mobilization, Kyiv police announced on Oct. 25.
Specifically, a resident of the Solomianskyi district received a four-year prison sentence, while a resident of the Obolonskyi district was sentenced to five years in prison.
In 2024, 26 cases against draft dodgers in the Ukrainian capital have been sent to the courts, according to the report. A total of 51 individuals have been charged with corresponding offenses, the message said.
In most cases, police investigations were started based on referrals from military recruitment centers in Kyiv.
Ukrainian law makes evading service during general mobilization punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to five years.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
