Ukraine slams Hungary over rhetoric
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhiy Tykhyi, criticized the Hungarian authorities for “demonizing” Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his June 10 statement on Telegram.
He noted that Budapest either remains silent about Russian aggression or absurdly accuses Ukraine of not wanting peace.
"Ukraine offers a complete and unconditional ceasefire, while Russia rejects it and continues the war and killings with all its might. Yet, we do not see Hungary demanding that Russia agree to a ceasefire," he said.
"The Hungarian authorities' communication strategy, which demonizes Ukraine and President Zelenskyy, has gone off the rails. Where principled action is required, the Hungarian authorities remain silent. And where it is necessary to look for common ground, they throw groundless accusations.”
Tykhyi pointed out Ukraine's efforts to address the concerns of the Hungarian minority and called for mutual good neighborliness, focusing on cooperation rather than imaginary enemies.
Earlier that day, Zelenskyy said that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was using Russia’s war against Ukraine and Zelenskyy’s image to gain political advantage ahead of Hungary’s 2026 parliamentary elections.
He described Orban’s actions as a “serious historic mistake.”
