Kyiv municipal engineers have repaired a section of the capital’s Northern Bridge damaged by a Russian drone on Oct. 4, the city administration said on Oct. 6.

Bridge workers restored the structure and road surface, reinforced the roadway’s foundation, covered it with a special metal plate, and repaved it. According to the administration, repair crews also restored the connections between sections of the bridge, which help ensure its strength and stability.

Russian drones struck Kyiv’s Southern Bridge on Oct. 1 and 2, damaging the road surface, a support structure, a guardrail and protective covering over a metro track. Traffic restrictions caused gridlock across the city: Major roads came to a standstill, public transportation was delayed, and people crossed bridges on foot.

Russia first attacked the Northern Bridge on Oct. 3. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the attack damaged the road surface and the trolleybus overhead network, injured two people and led to restrictions on bridge traffic. The following day, a drone struck the Northern Bridge again. Photos published by Hromadske showed a large crater in the road surface.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
