Emergency crews restore power to Kyiv suburbs

Power has been fully restored to Kyiv’s suburb of Vyshhorod after almost four days of blackout following the Dec. 27 massive Russian drone and missile attack on Ukraine’s power grid, regional Governor Mykola Kalashnyk reported on Telegram on Dec. 31.
“Vyshhorod is now fully restored: everyone has electricity after almost 100 hours of darkness,” he said.
The energy company DTEK later confirmed that power had been restored to approximately 9,000 customers in the city. Emergency crews worked around the clock for four consecutive days to repair a local substation that was severely damaged by the Russian air assault.
Overall, energy workers have restored electricity to 356,500 households in 46 settlements across Kyiv Oblast over the past week, following repeated Russian strikes on power infrastructure.
Emergency power outages remain in effect on the left bank of the oblast, where the damage was most severe and restoration work is ongoing.
Kalashnyk also reported that heat supply has been restored to communities in the Obukhiv district.
On Dec, 27 Russian forces fired 559 missiles and drones at Ukraine. Kyiv and its suburbs were among the main targets of the attack. One person was killed and 32 others were injured in the capital. More than 320,000 consumers and businesses were left without electricity.
