Latvia blocks 17 websites spreading Russian propaganda
Latvia’s National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) has restricted domestic access to 17 websites for spreading Russian propaganda, the country’s official publisher Latvijas Vēstnesis announced on Oct. 23.
Among the blocked sites is topcor.ru, which disseminates false information about global events, particularly regarding Russia's war against Ukraine. It justifies the invasion and occupation of Ukrainian territories. Additionally, the site contains material undermining Latvia's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, according to the statement from the Latvian government.
The website russkie.org, which distributes distorted information about events in Russia and the world while emphasizing the "special" role of the Russian Federation and the Russian language, has also been banned.
Additional sites to be blocked in Latvia include yashkinskiyraion.rf, dagpravda.ru, otr-online.ru, sevkavportal.ru, nur-05.ru, nikatv.ru, informugra.ru, edinstvo-news.ru, gubtrk.ru, and others.
According to a report by Delfi, NEPLP received a letter from another state body regarding the content of these websites. After examination, NEPLP decided to restrict access to these resources.
