Three new schemes for military conscripts to travel abroad uncovered by law enforcement
Law enforcement officials have dismantled three new schemes helping military conscripts travel abroad in western and southern Ukraine, detaining six alleged organizers, according to the SBU on Jan. 2.
An investigation revealed that suspects sold fake disability certificates or smuggled draft evaders abroad, bypassing checkpoints.
The cost of these "services" ranged from $5,000 to $15,000 per client, according to law enforcement.
Two residents of Transcarpathia were arrested for attempting to smuggle a conscript out of the country by hiding him among construction debris.
The suspects placed the conscript at the bottom of a horse-drawn cart to avoid detection.
Authorities also arrested other alleged organizers of similar schemes in Odesa Oblast.
Three residents of the Podilskyi district, aged 21 to 25, were detained for leading conscripts across the border on foot using the so-called "green pass."
In Bukovyna, a local doctor is accused of selling fake disability group 2 certificates to conscripts after they were released from medical facilities.
He allegedly used personal connections within the MSEK to facilitate the transactions.
