Lithuania and Latvia deny airspace to Fico flight en route to Moscow

Lithuania and Latvia denied airspace access to a plane carrying Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico en route to Moscow for May 9 events, Slovakia’s TASR news agency reported on Apr. 19.
Fico said authorities in both countries had informed him that his plane would not be allowed to pass through their airspace en route to the Russian capital.
“I will certainly find another route, as I did last year,” Fico said.
In 2025, 29 foreign leaders attended the May 9 celebrations in Moscow. Among them, in addition to Robert Fico, were Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary To Lam.
