Lithuania enforces new restrictions on Belarusian-registered cars
Lithuania will ban passenger cars with Belarusian license plates from entering its territory as of July 18, regardless of the nationality of the owner or driver, the country's customs service reported on July 17.
However, until Aug. 16, Belarusian citizens with a valid visa or residence permit in Lithuania and the EU will be able to import and use passenger cars for personal use, provided they are not intended for sale. This exception does not apply to cars owned by legal entities or used for commercial purposes.
Cars with Belarusian license plates can be driven in Lithuania for another 6 months, but must leave the country and the EU by Jan. 18, 2025. Violators will be prosecuted.
The ban does not apply to vehicles with Belarusian diplomatic plates if they are intended for use by diplomatic and consular missions or international organizations.
Earlier, on March 2, Lithuanian customs ordered cars with Russian license plates to leave Lithuania and the entire territory of the European Union by March 11.
