Lukashenko orders subordinates to ‘improve relations’ with Poland
The self-proclaimed president of Belarus,
Alexander Lukashenko, has stated that he instructed his diplomats to “improve
relations with Poland,” after ratcheting
up tensions with Warsaw for several weeks, Lukashenko’s press service said
on Aug. 11.
“I instructed the PM to get in touch with them [the Poles],” the message quotes Lukashenko.
“If they want, let's talk, improve relations. We are neighbors, and neighbors are not chosen, they are given by God.”
In his view, Poland is allegedly intentionally "escalating the situation” because parliamentary elections are scheduled for Oct. 15 in the country. At the same time, the Belarusian dictator accused the United States of supposedly "pushing Warsaw to escalate."
“The Americans have bet on Poland,” said the dictator.
“But the Poles are not fools. They are our people, Slavs. They understand everything perfectly. We'll endure, we'll see. We are open to cooperation.”
In the past, the Belarusian dictator accused Poland of preparing an aggression against Belarus.
On June 30, Lukashenko threatened to strike "decision-making centers" in the West.
On Aug. 1, the Belarusian dictator claimed that he merely "joked" about Wagner Group mercenaries, who are currently stationed in Belarus, to “march” into Poland.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
