Kharkiv shooting alert turns out to be toy gun incident

A man opened fire from a balcony in central Kharkiv, but police later determined he was using a toy gun, regional authorities said on May 11.

Police in Kharkiv responded to a report of gunfire on a balcony, only to discover the weapon was a toy.

Authorities said they received a call around 8 p.m. about a person allegedly shooting from a balcony on Myronosytska Street. Officers who responded to the scene confirmed that a local resident had been firing a pistol — which was later identified as a toy gun.

Police conducted a preventive conversation with the individual and took a written statement, officials said.
