Ukraine’s Rada again extends martial law, mobilization
The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, has once again extended martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine, European Solidarity party MP Oleksiy Honcharenko announced on Telegram on May 2.
Effective May 20, martial law and mobilization will be extended for another 90 days, until Aug. 18.
This is the seventh time martial law and mobilization have been extended since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian Holos party MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said in a Telegram post.
The previous bill is valid until May 20 and can be extended for up to three months, at most.
During general mobilization, all citizens of Ukraine who are liable for military service between the ages of 18 and 60 can be called up for military service, unless they have legal grounds for a deferral or exclusion from military registration.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
