Moscow’s May 1 parade — one of the most important of the year, used to mark International Workers’ Day — has been canceled with officials citing a high “terror attack” threat, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FNPR) announced on April 14, says state news agency TASS.
The FNPR recommended to refrain from May 1 parades or rallies this year as they consider the terrorism threat high, even in regions remote from the border with Ukraine.
A solemn meeting with the participation of trade union leaders is scheduled in Moscow for May 1 instead.
Along with the so-called ‘Victory Day’ parade on May 9, the May 1 parade is one of Russia’s most beloved.
Russian authorities have already canceled ‘Victory Day’ parades in the border cities of Belgorod and Kursk, as well as in occupied Crimea.
