Mine explodes on beach near Zatoka in Odesa Oblast, killing three people
A mine exploded on the beach between the villages of Karolino-Bugaz and Zatoka in Ukraine’s Odesa Oblast, killing three people, the newspaper Dumska reported on Aug. 10.
The tragedy occurred around 11:30 a.m. when a mine exploded in the sea about 50 meters from the shore. At the time, people were in the water.
Police said officers responded to the scene and are gathering information about the incident.
According to the Odesa Regional Military Administration, beaches in Zatoka are not on the list of open zones and are not authorized for public use. Despite this, tourists are being allowed in.
On June 7 in Zatoka, two people were killed on the beach after triggering a mine. Police urged residents and visitors to Odesa Oblast not to go onto stretches of the Black Sea coastline that are off-limits.
