Russian missile strike on Odesa injures eight people

Russian forces attacked the city of Odesa with missiles overnight into Aug. 9, triggering a series of explosions. The strikes damaged buildings in several districts of the city, and eight people were injured, Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported.
The attack caused extensive damage and fires in several districts of the city. In central Odesa, a fire broke out in a four-story residential building, and nearby vehicles caught fire as well. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which covered an area of 1,000 square meters (about 10,800 square feet). At another location, two private homes caught fire.
Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, said the injured are receiving necessary medical care. Residential buildings in several districts of the city were damaged, and vehicles were also destroyed by fire.
Prior to the strikes, Ukraine's Air Force had warned of a threat involving ballistic weapons, and later reported that several missiles were heading toward Odesa.
On Aug. 7, a Russian strike damaged the Chornomorets football stadium in central Odesa, causing damage to its roof, windows, and stands.
On Aug. 4, Russian forces carried out a missile strike on the outskirts of Odesa near a market, injuring three people.
