Modi once again urges Putin to end Ukraine war

During a meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization
summit in Kyrgyzstan on Aug. 31, Indian PM Narendra
Modi called on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end the war against
Ukraine.
India “supports all and every effort for peace,” Modi said at the start of his meeting with Putin, as reported by Bloomberg.
“There’s a need to move from ‘endless war to end of war’ he said, switching from Hindi into English,” the report said.
In response, Putin claimed that “we’re moving in this direction,” despite recent Western intelligence assessments concluding that the Kremlin has chosen to escalate the conflict instead of negotiating a compromise.
“We must move in precisely this direction because it is extremely important for the well-being of humanity. All issues must be resolved peacefully as soon as possible. Humanity demands it,” Modi added.
On Aug. 23, 2024, Modi visited Ukraine. It was the
first visit by an Indian prime minister to Ukraine since the country gained
independence in 1991. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and
emphasized the need for negotiations with Russia to end the war.
