Ukrainian MP Oles Dovhyi submitted a resignation statement relinquishing his mandate, the MP announced via Facebook on June 18.

"I'm out of politics; I filed my statement to resign as an MP," Dovhyi said.

He added that he does not intend to participate in future elections or hold any positions in state or local government.

Instead, Dovhyi said he will focus on supporting Ukraine’s armed forces and various social and cultural initiatives.

"I believe in Ukraine, and I thank my family, friends and team for their support; I value common sense and decency," he wrote.

Dovhiy cited his “inability to be productive in parliament” as the reason for his decision.

If his resignation is accepted, the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada) will have 398 sitting MPs out of 450. The parliamentary Ethics Committee will first review Dovhiy’s resignation, and the parliament will then vote on the matter.

Dovhiy has served as an independent MP for Kirovohrad Oblast since 2014. He chaired the medical insurance subcommittee under the parliamentary Health Committee.
