NABU denies investigating Flamingo missile manufacturer
Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities are not investigating Fire Point, the defense contractor producing Flamingo cruise missiles, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) said in a joint statement on Aug. 29.
The statement was issued shortly after a report by Kyiv Independent suggested the company was being probed for corruption related to government contracts.
“NABU and SAPO are not conducting any probe into the Flamingo missile mentioned in the media,” the Telegram message said.
In its report, Kyiv Independent, citing unnamed sources, said that NABU detectives were examining whether Fire Point had inflated costs or misstated the number of drones supplied to the Defense Ministry.
The outlet also said investigators were probing a possible link between Fire Point and Timur Mindich, co-owner of the Kvartal 95 entertainment content studio founded by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy before he ran for office. According to documents obtained by the journalists, Fire Point was among the largest recipients of Defense Ministry drone procurement funding.
On Aug. 17, Ukrainian media reported that the Flamingo missile, which has a reported range of more than 3,000 kilometers and a warhead twice as powerful as that of the U.S.-Tomahawk, has entered serial production.
On Aug. 21, AP reported that Ukraine’s classified production facility was turning out one Flamingo missile per day, with plans to scale up to seven daily.
