National Guardsman in Dnipro shoots dead five, wounds five, flees scene
A National Guardsman shot dead five of his fellows and wounded five more early in the morning of Jan. 27 at the Pivdenmash plant in Dnipro, Ukraine’s Interior Ministry has reported.
UPDATE: Police detained Ryabchuk in the outskirts of Dnipro, city's mayor Borys Filatov wrote in a Facebook post.
According to the ministry, the guardsman – Artemiy Ryabchuk, a conscript born in 2001 – opened fire with his automatic rifle on the National Guard squad guarding the plant.
Still armed, he fled the scene of the shooting, leaving five people dead and five more wounded.
The motive for the shooting is still unclear.

In response, a police operation is underway in the city of Dnipro and its surroundings, involving both the National Guard and police.
The shooter has not yet been apprehended.
