Nearly 30,000 Ukrainians considered missing — ombudsman
Almost 30,000 individuals are currently considered
missing under extraordinary circumstances in Ukraine, Ukrainian Ombudsman’s
Office representative Oleksandr Kononenko said on March 20.
Kononenko announced the figures during a meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Moscow Mechanism.
He was outlining the war’s toll on Ukrainian civilian population, adding that Russia also illegally detains three OSCE employees.
“Approximately 1,600 civilians, unlawfully detained and sentenced by Russia, have been identified,” said Kononenko.
According to him, around 30,000 Ukrainian children, civilians, and prisoners-of-war are currently considered missing under extraordinary conditions.
Kononenko also indicated that the actual figure might be considerably higher.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
