No ATACMS for Ukraine just yet — White House
U.S. President Joe Biden has decided not to
include ATACMS
ballistic missiles in the new military aid package for Ukraine, U.S. National
Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sept. 21.
According to Voice of America journalist Ostap Yarysh, Sullivan noted that the option is not off the table, either.
The official added that the new military aid package will include air defense systems and other weapons to assist Kyiv ahead of the coming winter. The timing of the aid package being announced coincides with the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the White House.
On Sept. 21, Zelenskyy meets with Biden at the White House. This will be the Ukrainian leader's second visit to Washington since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion.
Previously, media outlets reported that the new U.S. assistance package will include a second batch of 155mm cluster munitions, more short-range Avenger air-defense systems that use Stinger missiles, TOW and AT4 anti-tank systems, missiles for HIMARS systems, Javelin anti-tank missiles, and other equipment.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
