First wave drone attack on Kyiv caused no damage to critical infrastructure, missile wave incoming

The first wave of Russia’s attack on Kyiv early on Jan. 2, consisting of several kamikaze Shahed drones, did not damage any critical infrastructure in the city, the Kyiv City Military Administration (KVMA) reported, as of 4:00 a.m. EET.
Debris fell in three areas of the capital, reported KVMA head Serhiy Popko.
“Debris was recorded falling onto the roof of a multi-story residential building in the Pechersk district. In the Obolon district, debris fell on some warehouses. In the Holosiiv area – debris fell in an open field,” he said.
Debris was also discovered in the Desnyansky district, reported Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Russia has attacked Ukraine in waves overnight.
Ukraine managed to eliminate all 35 attack drones in the first wave. Explosions have been heard in several cities after Russia launched a number of missiles, including ballistic Kinzhals, at Ukrainian cities.
The attack is ongoing, with explosions heard in Kharkiv and Kropyvnytskyi.
“There are many missiles headed toward Kyiv,” the Ukrainian Air Force reported.
In the capital, drone debris fell in two districts, sparking fires. A fire broke out in Mykolaiv due to the attack.
Air raid alerts sounded nationwide due to the missile threat this morning.
