OAS signs Peace Summit communique — Zelenskyy
The Organization of American States (OAS) has joined the communique of the recent Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on June 19.
“The [diplomatic] representation from the American continent, particularly Latin America, has increased,” Zelenskyy said in his evening video address.
“It is now official — the Organization of American States, which unites countries from both North and South America, as well as the island nation of Antigua and Barbuda, has joined [the communique].”
Zelenskyy reiterated that the format of the Peace Summit and the communique it produced ensures "fair treatment for every state."
“We view the entire world as equals, and this is our ideological difference from Russia in international relations,” the president added.
“We respect every nation and count on every vote in the cooperation between peoples. This is precisely how the UN Charter is built — so that all states matter.”
The Global Peace Summit, initiated by Ukraine, was held June 15-16 in Switzerland. Russia was not invited, while China declined to attend the event. The summit saw participation from 100 delegations, including 57 heads of state and government from all over the world.
The final communique was signed by 78 countries and four delegations. Among those who did not sign the document were Saudi Arabia, India, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, and the UAE.
