One million artillery shells from EU ‘not enough’ — Borrell

After a series of delays, the European Union has delivered the promised one million artillery rounds to Ukraine, Josep Borrell, EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced on Nov. 18.

"We have fulfilled our commitment to provide Ukraine with one million rounds of ammunition, and we will train an additional 75,000 Ukrainian soldiers by the end of winter," Borrell said.

He also noted that the EU has already supplied Ukraine with weapons worth EUR 45 billion ($48 billion). At the same time, the official admitted that the current of European support for Ukraine is not enough to turn the tide of the war.

“We are providing Ukraine just enough to maintain its position, and sometimes even less, while Russia has fully mobilized its economy for war and relies on unconditional support from North Korea and Iran,” he added.

On Nov. 14, the European Commission announced that, for the first time in its history, the EU approved support for joint defense procurement by its member states. This includes air defense systems and ammunition, some of which will be sent to Ukraine as military aid.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
