Ukrainian command reports Russian drones camouflaged for night warfare

Russian invaders are currently launching drones in Ukraine painted in darker colors with different sound characteristics, Ukraine’s Operational Command South spokesperson, Natalia Humeniuk, reported on national television on March 15.

“We are familiar with the modifications they are using,” Humeniuk said.

“They are painted in darker colors — different shades of black, carbon, and dark gray — to blend in with the night sky.”

The Shaheds also often exhibit different sound characteristics, with some flying louder and some quieter.

There has yet to be a conclusion reached regarding whether they have a reinforced warhead, Humeniuk said.

“Experts hypothesize that some drones may possess a reinforced warhead,” she said.

The Iranian Ashura Aerospace University of Science & Technology in the fall presented a modification of the Shahed-136 strike drone, which has a jet engine and updated guidance systems — the Shahed-238.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
