PACE resolution calls for special Russia tribunal
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) passed a resolution calling for the creation of a special tribunal to investigate Russia's crimes of aggression in Ukraine, Ukrainian MP and PACE delegate Oleksii Honcharenko announced on June 26.
“PACE has just passed the resolution 'Legal and Human Rights Aspects of the Russian Federation's Aggression against Ukraine,' which proposes the establishment of a special tribunal for Russia based on an agreement between the Council of Europe and Ukraine," Honcharenko wrote on Telegram.
The MP added that the resolution underscores the need to use all available legal mechanisms to hold Russian war criminals accountable for their actions in the ongoing war.
The resolution also calls for recognizing Russia’s Wagner Group PMC as a terrorist organization.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited The Hague on April 2 to discuss the establishment of a special tribunal for Russia.
Kuleba previously explained that the special tribunal is the only viable way to hold Russia's top political and military leaders accountable for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
The establishment of the tribunal has now received backing through resolutions from both the European Parliament and PACE.
