PM nominee Koretskyi names three priorities for his government

Ukrainian Prime Minister nominee Serhiy Koretskyi said he wants the Cabinet under his leadership to become a "government of defense, economic development and European integration" as lawmakers considered his appointment on July 16.
According to Koretskyi, Ukraine's resilience "rests on two pillars" — its armed forces and its people, who "despite all the horrors of war, continue to live here, work, raise children, rebuild what has been destroyed, develop the country and remain mentally resilient in the fifth year of the war."
"That is why the government faces clear tasks expected by Ukrainian society that require time to accomplish. These include fully supplying the Defense Forces, expanding our defense-industrial base, supporting Ukraine's people, strengthening social protection, and paying special attention to frontline communities, where the situation remains the most difficult," the prime minister-designate said.
He added that other key priorities include preparing the country for the next heating season, supporting businesses to preserve economic resilience, deepening cooperation with international partners, attracting and effectively using international assistance, and advancing Ukraine's path toward European Union membership.
"We must ensure support for internally displaced people. Veterans remain, and will continue to remain, an unconditional priority. The state has supported veterans and will continue to do so," Koretskyi said.
On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Governance recommended that parliament approve Koretskyi as prime minister.
On July 14, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Yuliia Svyrydenko as prime minister. Until a new prime minister and Cabinet are appointed, Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal will serve as acting head of government.
Late on July 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted Serhii Koretskyi's nomination for prime minister to parliament. Servant of the People parliamentary faction leader Davyd Arakhamia said Koretskyi attended a faction meeting, where he outlined his vision for the Cabinet's work and the structure of the new government.
Parliament is expected to vote on July 16 to appoint the new prime minister and approve the new Cabinet. The reshuffle is expected to include the replacement of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, whose supporters are holding rallies in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa and Lviv.
