Mysterious freight train derailment on Russia’s Trans-Baikal line disrupts Trans-Siberian travelers
A 14-car freight train derailed on the Aleur-Bushulei stretch of Russia’s Trans-Baikal Railway in Russia on Jan. 8.
No casualties were reported, though the incident halted passenger trains on the line, including those on the Moscow to Vladivostok, and Chita to Blagoveshchensk routes, Russian Railways reported on Telegram.
The cause of the derailment remains a mystery.
Russian Telegram channel Astra suggested a potential collision with a train traveling in the opposite direction as the reason for the derailment.
Russian media and Telegram channels reported an explosion on the railway in Nizhny Tagil, a major industrial center in the Urals, in the Russian Sverdlovsk region on Jan. 8. The explosion occurred near an oil depot.
