Prince Harry makes surprise visit to Ukraine
Prince Harry visited Ukraine and met with war veterans recovering from their injuries, a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex announced on April 10.
According to the announcement, he visited the Superhumans Center clinic in Lviv and met with Ukrainian Veteran Affairs Minister Natalia Kalmykova. For security reasons, his visit was publicized only after he left the country.
In its report, the AP moted that Prince Harry served in the British Army for 10 years, including a tour in Afghanistan as an Apache helicopter pilot, and described his efforts to help wounded servicemembers as one of his “most notable achievements.” He also founded the Invictus Games to allow injured veterans to participate in sports competitions similar to the Paralympics.
Last year, Prince Harry’s aunt, the Duchess of Edinburgh, became the first British royal to visit Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. His elder brother and heir apparent, Prince William, met with Ukrainian refugees in March during a two-day visit to Estonia.
The royal family, along with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, has supported Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion.
