Prosecution requests $3 million bail for AMCU head Kyrylenko
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) is requesting the High Anti-Corruption Court set a UAH 120 million ($2.9 million) bail for Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU).
As reported by public broadcaster Suspilne, the prosecution submitted their request during a court hearing on Aug. 15. Although the hearing was open, the court banned live broadcasts and filming, Suspilne noted.
The prosecution argued that Kyrylenko is a flight risk. The head of the AMCU has traveled abroad twice during the war, the report adds.
On Aug. 14, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) charged Kyrylenko with illicit enrichment of over UAH 56 million ($1.4 million).
According to NABU, from 2020 to 2023, while serving as the Donetsk regional governor, Kyrylenko acquired 21 real estate properties and a luxury car, registering the assets under his wife's relatives. The difference between the value of the assets and the available funds of the official and his wife amounted to UAH 56.2 million.
Additionally, according to NABU, Kyrylenko did not declare the acquired assets in his tax declarations for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
From July 5, 2019, to Sept. 5, 2023, he headed the Donetsk Regional State Administration, and from Sept. 6, 2023, he has been the head of the AMCU.
