Prosecutor General Kravchenko resigns

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan
Kravchenko announced his resignation on Monday evening, Sept. 7, days after
the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) raided his office.
In a statement posted via Telegram, Kravchenko called it a “political decision” that he had made “consciously.”
“I do not want the position of prosecutor general to be used as a tool for political confrontation,” he said.
“My position regarding the [NABU] accusations remains unchanged.”
Kravchenko thanked colleagues who “honestly perform their duties,” as well as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada).
Earlier, Ukrainska Pravda, citing informed sources in political circles, reported that Zelenskyy had met with Kravchenko and David Arakhamia, Servant of the People party chairman, to discuss Kravchenko’s future in office.
Earlier the same day, Kravchenko said he would not resign unless his colleagues, Zelenskyy, and parliament asked him to do so.
On Sept. 4, NABU announced a special operation to expose an alleged criminal organization led by an employee of the Prosecutor General’s Office. According to sources cited by Ukrainska Pravda, NABU and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) detained Serhii Kropyva, head of the Prosecutor General’s Office’s cyber department.
NABU and SAPO said the official may have been involved in protecting
a network of scam call centers from law enforcement.
