Putin signs decree to draft 130,000 conscripts
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has signed
a decree on the regular Autumn 2023 draft, which aims to see 130,000
conscripts joining the Russian military for mandatory service, Russian
state-run news agency RIA Novosti reported on Sept. 29.
Russia usually does two drafts annually, both in spring and autumn. This one will unfold throughout October to December.
On Sept. 11, Ukraine’s General Staff announced that Russia is on the verge of starting a large-scale forced mobilization due to substantial losses at the front, allegedly planning to draft 400,000-700,000 men.
UK defense intelligence previously assessed that high level of desertion betrays the poor morale of the Russian army and their unwillingness to fight. This is tied to a lack of training and motivation from Russian troops across the entire front line.
At the same time, high military wages and additional payments serve as strong incentives for Russians to join the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces. This is especially appealing to those residing in the impoverished regions of the country.
On July 25, Russia amended its conscription age law. From now on, men aged 18 to 30 years can be drafted to serve in the military.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
