Raytheon ramps up SharpSight radar output after record 120-unit order

U.S. defense company Raytheon announced a major expansion of
production capacity for its newest SharpSight radar system.
The expansion is designed to increase monthly output and
sharply cut delivery times for customers worldwide. A major milestone in the
program was a contract with Blue Raven for 120 SharpSight units — the largest
single order for the system to date.
SharpSight is a next-generation, multiplatform surveillance
radar designed for use on both manned and unmanned aircraft. The system draws on
Raytheon’s proven HISAR and SeaVue radar families, allowing it to support a
wide range of missions. Its open architecture enables fast, cost-effective
software upgrades, helping the radar adapt to emerging threats.
One of SharpSight’s main advantages is its ability to
operate at high altitudes and long ranges. When paired with an automatic
identification system, or AIS, the radar can simultaneously detect, track and
classify more than 1,000 targets, including small objects. That makes it well
suited for border security, coastal surveillance, search-and-rescue operations
and surface-target missions.
The partnership with Blue Raven will allow Raytheon to focus
on the technical side and system support, while the distributor takes over
global sales and distribution. Raytheon says the model should help stabilize
pricing and make advanced surveillance technology more accessible to operators
with missions of different scales — from small private fleets to large
government agencies.
The company describes SharpSight as the product of 60 years
of radar innovation, combining strong performance with flexible deployment
options.
