Russian forces struck a large shopping center in Rivne on the morning of Oct. 16, according to regional military governor Oleksandr Koval.
“In addition to the residential sector, one of the large retail facilities was also hit,” Koval wrote on Telegram.
He did not provide further details but said he was at the scene of the attack. Local media also reported a strike on a shopping center in the city.
Around 10 a.m., several explosions were heard in Rivne amid an attack involving jet-powered drones, public broadcaster Suspilne reported.
Earlier, the Rivne regional military administration said apartment buildings in the city were damaged and seven people were injured.
Overall, Russian forces attacked Ukraine overnight with 149 drones, 114 of which were neutralized, most of them jet-powered. The fallout from the attack was also reported in Kyiv city, and Volyn, Lviv, Ternopil, Cherkasy, Odesa, Zaporizhzhya, and other oblasts.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
