Romanian prosecutors have charged two Ukrainian nationals in
a case involving packages
containing explosives that authorities say were organized with the help of
Russian intelligence, Balkan Insight reported
on April 6.
Prosecutors charged a 23-year-old and a 24-year-old Ukrainian with attempted sabotage, the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) said. The case concerns the delivery of explosive packages to Europe that authorities posit were coordinated by Russian intelligence services.
DIICOT says the suspects delivered two explosive packages in October 2025 to a Nova Poshta (Ukrainian mail carrier) branch in Bucharest.
“There was a real risk that a fire could break out on site and pose threats to national security, given that the branch is on the ground floor of a seven-story residential building in a densely populated central Bucharest neighborhood,” investigators said.
The two Ukrainians have been in custody since October 2025
after being detained in cooperation with Polish authorities, who simultaneously
detained six others in Poland. If convicted, the suspects face up to 10 years
in prison.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
