Fighting in Donetsk Oblast
On March 30, Svyatoslav Lesiuk, deputy commander of the 42nd Mechanized Brigade’s 1st Mechanized Battalion, noted Russian efforts to bypass Toretsk’s flanks as the sector has seen intensified combat.
Major Viktor Trehubov, Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Troop Grouping’s spokesperson, reported on March 31 that Russians were using underground routes to infiltrate Ukrainian defenses.
By April 12, street fighting persisted in Toretsk, with Russian forces holding numerical superiority.
DeepState’s April 30 analysis identified Pokrovsk (34.3% of attacks), Kursk (13.8%), Lyman (12.9%), and Toretsk (11.8%) as Russia’s primary fronts.
The U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War noted on May 5 that Russia redeployed units from the Kurakhove and Zaporizhzhya fronts to Toretsk, signaling its military command’s strategic priority.
As DeepState analysts reported on May 16, according to available data, Russian troops had advanced on two frontlines in Donetsk Oblast - near Rozlyv in the Novopavlivka sector and in Novooleksandrivka in the Pokrovsk sector.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
