Russia has banned online listings offering gasoline on three major national marketplaces (Avito, Ozon, and Wildberries), the country’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) announced on June 22.

The FAS said it is working with digital platforms to “prevent speculative reselling of fuel,” Russian propaganda agency Interfax reported. Avito temporarily took down fuel sale listings while it revised rules for the category. Ozon and Wildberries now prohibit the sale of motor fuel; attempts to create product pages for fuel are being blocked at the pre-moderation stage before even appearing on those marketplaces’ storefronts.

The agency previously ordered its regional offices to step up oversight of fuel sales to farmers and to strengthen checks on compliance with antimonopoly laws during fuel sales, including from oil depots, storage facilities, and gas stations.

Days earlier, Russian occupation authorities in Crimea have suspended all fuel sales across the peninsula, saying that only the military and key state agencies will have access to gasoline and diesel “until further notice.”

On June 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian attacks since early 2026 have struck 15 Russian refineries. He said nearly 40 percent of Russia’s primary oil refining capacity was offline as of May.

The fuel shortage in Russia is unfolding gradually. Border and southern regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and Rostov oblasts, along with Russian-occupied Crimea and other occupied territories, have been among the first to face acute shortages and sharp retail price increases.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
