Russian drones strike Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts, causing widespread destruction
Damage was reported in Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts following a Russian drone attack on the night of Jan. 18, Southern Defense Forces reported on Telegram.
Military officials confirmed a massive drone attack originating from the eastern coast of the Azov Sea, targeting southern regions.
Air defense units successfully neutralized eight UAVs of the Shahed-131/136 type in Mykolaiv Oblast and one in Kherson Oblast.
Russian forces deliberately targeted residential areas in Kherson, causing damage to multi-story buildings and injuring a woman.
An agricultural enterprise in the Beryslav community of Kherson oblast was also struck, with no reported casualties.
Wreckage from downed drones resulted in damage to an agricultural facility in the Bashtanskyi district of Mykolaiv oblast. No injuries reported in that incident, according to the Southern Defense Forces.
Russia launched kamikaze drone attacks on Ukraine on the evening of Jan. 17 and the night of Jan. 18, leading to audible explosions in Khmelnytskyi.
The Air Force reported the destruction of 22 enemy UAVs through the combined efforts of the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine. Several drones did not reach their targets.
