Zelenskyy: Russia fails to break Ukraine defenses, losses mount

Ukrainian forces are largely holding the same frontline positions as a year ago amid mounting Russian losses, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with British blogger Max Klymenko.
“If we look at the past year, we’re holding nearly the same positions, but Russian casualties are rising. The Russians can’t break through our defenses,” Zelenskyy said, adding that Russia is trying to “create chaos” by striking energy and civilian infrastructure instead.
After four years of full-scale war, Moscow has failed to achieve its key objectives, including occupying the entire Donbas region and capturing Kyiv.
Earlier, Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said that, for the first time since the Kursk incursion, Ukrainian troops had liberated more territory in February than Russian forces had seized.
Zelenskyy also said that Ukrainian forces have regained about 460 square kilometers of territory since the beginning of the year and that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has effectively “lost the winter offensive.”
