Russia endures record military losses in Ukraine

12 July 2024, 02:25 PM

The average daily Russian casualties (killed and wounded) in Ukraine rose to 1,262 in May and 1,163 in June, marking the highest figures recorded since Russia's war against Ukraine began, the UK Defense Ministry reported on X on July 12.

Russia has likely lost over 70,000 soldiers over the past two months, with the uptick in losses attributed to the new Russian offensive in Kharkiv Oblast and active assaults across other fronts.

"Russia's casualty rate will likely continue to average above 1,000 a day over the next two months as Russia continues to try to overmatch Ukrainian positions with mass," the report said.

French Foreign Minister Stéphane Sejourne stated on May 3 that, according to his country's estimates, Russia has already lost 500,000 soldiers in the war against Ukraine.
