Russia cancels first launch of Angara-A5 heavy rocket from Vostochny cosmodrome
The first launch of Russia's Angara-A5 heavy rocket from the Vostochny cosmodrome was canceled at the last minute due to a failure of the central unit's oxidizer tank pressurization system, Roscosmos Director General, Yuri Borisov, reported on April 9.
The launch, which was supposed to mark a significant moment in Russian spaceflight as the beginning of flight and design tests of the new Amur space rocket system, has been postponed for at least 24 hours and is now scheduled for April 10.
Until now, Angara rockets have only been launched from another Russian cosmodrome, Plesetsk.
This launch was to be the first in a series of tests that would eventually lead to the usage of the rocket for manned spacecraft.
It will be the seventh launch under the Angara program and the fourth for the heavy-class A5 rocket.
